They say the most interesting stories begin with an ending. And so it is with The Machine Gunners, whose songs capture that moment when situations, people, the old 'business as usual' all seem destined to dissolve. Or in other words, when things get interesting.

Writer Matthew Grist pens songs for characters that seem to have tipped out of a Graham Greene novel, a little bit shabby, a touch compromised, but hoping they've got another good game in them as they blink into the sunlight. A woman gets out of not-her-own bed, and a man rolls over into a scandal. Sure it's cocktail hour, but the sun is also setting on your little empire mate. All the while dogs stare hopefully up at their owners, somehow knowing that wiser probably doesn't mean happier.

On stage there are 4 spokes to this wheel, making a robust and twangy beatpop clatter, a finely tuned vintage motor since you ask. But that's the beauty of it, you can just go and listen to them and make up your own mind, can't you?

Their debut single "Fair weather friend" is out Autumn 2012.
